I'm not exactly a photog. major like my sister- so when I want to put up a new photo on facebook I go wild with the photobooth function on my mac. And I seriously get into it- I channel my 9 yr old self who wanted to be a model. It's fun.

There was magic in the world yet. The thought struck me as I gazed out the window at the countryside rushing past, and imagined Seaside. We were headed toward the great capital city, my sister and I. It was said to hold all that remained of mystery in the world. People of all sorts gathered there, and from what I had seen of those on our train, the rumor was true. The train that carried us across the winding countryside carried fishermen, royal guards, and farmers alike. The other passengers all seemed far more interesting than Sarah and I. They all seemed so colorful, enchanting and interesting. I frowned and thought that we two farm-girls had no place on such a train. We wore our second best dresses, but the green that had seemed so vibrant back home I now saw as dingy.
I noticed Sarah was starting to fidget again. What a pair we made; the delicate younger sister, unable to keep still or speak to strangers, and her older boyish lummox of a sister, abrasive and unyielding. I missed the days when that had been all there was to us. Thinking of the past, I turned back to the scenery rushing by the window.

As the train grew near the station, Sarah instinctively reached for my hand with both of hers. She seemed likely to faint as the conductors voice called out that we had reached out destination. Seaside City. I nearly had to drag Sarah to her feet. If the train started again before we disembarked I knew Sarah would be relieved. But I would have none of that. Giving my sister a wry look, I grabbed my bag and left her in the compartment. I wasn’t far down the hall before she lunged through the door, baggage in hand.
“Linda!” She cried, tripping and dragging her unwieldy baggage after her. “Linda, please slow down!” She near shrieked.
But I was relentless. I continued on and out of the train. As I did, the stationmaster was making his final call for Seaside. What the devil was Sarah doing? Did she intend to leave me here, with all of our money and identification? No, Sarah was useless on her own and she knew it. There, she just made it before the doors were shut.
“Li-Li-Linda how could you?” She whispered accusingly. Lord forbid Sarah make a spectacle of herself in a crowd. I thought sarcastically. Lifting her things and lowering her face, she shuffled towards me and slid her hand back into mine. I was forgiven.
“Sarah, don’t forget we’re here for you. It’s very important that I get you to the imperial palace tomorrow.” Sarah nodded morosely and followed after me as I navigated us through the crowds.

Well that's it- the first real bit of the story. I wanted to start out with a small piece and work my way up to larger segments. I've never been on a train so I'm sure this came out wrong but I did it anyways so I'm happy. This entire project is meant to help both my writing and illustrating. I might be varying slightly in my writing and illustrating styles throughout the story but only as I grow as a writer. Ideally you won't even notice the changes. I enjoy writing these very flawed characters and I hope someone will enjoy reading about them.
